Want to know the secrets of success? Here they are.
The staff of Investor’s Business Daily has made it their business to track and analyze successful people across all walks of life.
Over the years, they discovered that most successful people have 10 traits in common. And that these 10 traits -- together -- help successful people meet their goals and turn dreams into reality.
How many of these 10 secrets of success do you practice?
How you think is everything. Remember to “think positive” at every opportunity. Visualize success, not failure. Avoid negative environments and people.
You are what you think. In fact, a study shows that positive thinking actually increases longevity.
Decide on your dreams and goals. Be specific about your goals. For example, say “I am taking a cooking class next month,” rather than “I would like to take a cooking class sometime.” Create a plan to reach your goals, and stick to it.
Take action. Goals alone have no meaning; you need to take action to make them real. Don’t let fear hold you back. "Just do it."
Never stop learning. Take classes, go back to school, read books, join a discussion group. If you are interested in a subject, make time to learn about it. Keep acquiring new skills.
For more information, read The Benefits of Lifelong Learning for Older Adults.
Be persistent and work hard. You’ve probably heard the expression, “success is a marathon, not a sprint.” Keep your eye on the goal, and keep working toward it. Don’t give up.
Learn to analyze details. Get all the facts, and ask for input. This will help you make wiser decisions. Acknowledge your mistakes, but don’t beat yourself up. Learn from your mistakes.
Focus your time and money. When you believe in something, put your attention and energy there. Don’t let people or things distract you.
Don’t be afraid to innovate; be different. Be true to yourself, and have your own ideas. Following the crowd is a path to mediocrity.
Communicate with people effectively. Remember that no person is an island. Communicate your thoughts and desires honestly, and encourage others to communicate honestly with you. Practice understanding and motivating other people.
Be honest and dependable; take responsibility for what you do. Never cheat or lie. When you make a promise, keep it. When you screw up, admit it.
Without honesty, dependability and responsibility, the other nine secrets of success don’t add up to much.

Hines Ward returned to practice for the Steelers for the first time in 11 days.
TAMPA, Fla. -- Hines Ward practiced Thursday for the first time since suffering a sprained right knee in the AFC Championship Game two weeks ago, and Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said the wide receiver looked "awesome."
Tomlin also reiterated what he has said for the past week: Ward will play Sunday in Super Bowl XLIII against the Arizona Cardinals.
"He is where I thought he would be today," Tomlin said.Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger practiced effectively, but at times, he appeared to be trying to stretch his mid-torso region during the workout at the University of South Florida. Tomlin denied a recent report that Roethlisberger had undergone X-rays on his back this week.
"Not that I heard," said Tomlin, who then asked Steelers spokesman Dave Lockett if he knew of any X-rays on Roethlisberger. Lockett said no. Then Tomlin said: "Ben's health is often the subject of inaccurate reports. He's fine."
Roethlisberger was hit in the rib/back area during the AFC Championship Game against the Baltimore Ravens. He didn't come out of the game, but backup Byron Leftwich hurriedly warmed up in case he was needed. Roethlisberger said after the championship game that he was fine, and nothing had surfaced about his mid-torso until Thursday's report.
Roethlisberger threw the ball well on short and deep routes Thursday -- including a 40-yard bullet to wide receiver Santonio Holmes and several sharp tosses to Ward.
Despite rain, which was heavy at times, the Steelers went through their normal Thursday routine, which features the starting offense and defense working against the scout teams and on red-zone work. Leftwich imitated QB Kurt Warner, and practice-squad wide receiver Dallas Baker played WR Larry Fitzgerald to help the defense prepare for the Cardinals' stars.
"We're getting a great look from our scout teams, and we have all year," Tomlin said. "I can't say enough about the quality of work we're getting from Byron Leftwich, who has been fantastic all season imitating the other quarterback. He's giving our defense a good look at how Kurt Warner plays."
The Steelers will practice again Friday and have a short walk-through Saturday.

Pittsburgh's top-ranked defense, having held both of its playoff opponents to an average of 244 total yards, squares off against the high-powered Cardinals offense that has recorded 357, 360, and 369 yards in three playoff games.
Something has to give Sunday and the Steelers don't expect it to be their defense.
"What more can you ask for," Steelers cornerback Williams Gay said. "We will be on the biggest stage in the world, the Super Bowl, playing against the best offense I've seen thus far. As a defense, that's what you want."
The Steelers are the ninth team since 1970 to finish first in total defense and reach the Super Bowl. Seven of the previous eight teams have gone on to win the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
The numbers get even more ominous for the Cardinals and their fourth-ranked offense.
Among all Super Bowl participants, the team that scored more points in the regular season (Arizona scored 427, Pittsburgh 347) is 23-17 in the Super Bowl (two Super Bowls featured teams that scored the same number of points in the regular season).
Thirteen teams have finished first in total offense in the regular season and reached the Super Bowl. Only seven of them won. Two of those seven also possessed the league's best defense.
